Jorge Prado ended his first full Supercross season as he started it – on the podium! Early on in the race in Salt Lake City, Prado looked like he may have had the speed to win as he caught the Roczen and Hunter Lawrence at the front.
But, even though he almost passed Hunter in the whoops, Prado admitted he wasn’t sure what to do because he didn’t really want to interfere with their championship battle! Ultimately, Hunter made a mistake and Roczen won, with Jorge as ecstatic as Kenny was with Jorge explaining it was because he is such a huge fan of the German.
Prado stated: “Kenny has always been one of my idols, especially, you know, I, I’m from Spain, racing, growing up, racing GPs, and actually when I got into the Red Bull KTM factory racing team in 2011, it’s the year he won MX2 World Championships, so I really, I was always really looking up to him, and then obviously his story, right, with his huge injury, and then bouncing back and getting a Supecross Championship, it’s amazing, he really deserves to get a championship, so I was super happy for him.

But Prado did end up with a fine and a point on his license after an altercation with Webb after the finish line that you can see below:

Prado commented on the battle with Webb for a podium in the press conference, saying: “My mechanic was like five laps ago, and all of a sudden I saw the white flag, and then Cooper was right behind me, and you know, once you have Cooper behind, you really want to go tight into the corners, because he’s always sneaking the inside – but then you mess up the next section! So we got into the last few corners, and you know, I was looking to the right, looking to the left, and he was always there, so it was quite intense. I really want to get on the box, and yeah, luckily I got a good drive through the whoops, and then on the last corner, I’ve been super tight, and he tried to push me like, goes straight into me, but he couldn’t make it happen. Yeah, it was crazy, crazy last laps, lately it’s been a bit crazy on the last part of the race!
Webb of course had given an interview to Lewis Phillips with his usual sharp humour, saying: “I think he wasn’t happy with my last lap attempt, but he’s never done anything wrong, so, it’s all good. I think we all know and we speak for everyone and we got to be careful around him. So, as I told him, I said, ‘hey, man, I know that we’ve had some run-ins and I understand, you know, your frustration, but you got to understand my frustration and the other 21 guys, you’re just a fast, Vince Friese so, with that being said, he was fast enough tonight to get on the box and so, tip the cap.“
Amazingly, with Webb rumoured to be racing for team Tedder next year, who could be lessing the factory Husqvarna’s, Prado and Webb could be teammates (kind of) in 2027!
