John Meara ready to contest British Championship!

After missing the entire 2017 season due to a shoulder injury, John Meara will be back in the paddock for the season ahead on a Watt Kawasaki.

Meara has picked up quite a few injuries throughout the way but he is coming back from his longest time ever off the bike. He got back on the bike at the end of last season to start preparing for the season ahead and feels great to be back! “It feels great to be back on the bike. It’s the longest period I have ever had off and I was quite nervous getting back on my bike after my surgery. I was very rusty and nervous at the start but after a few sessions I started getting that good feeling back I’d almost forgot how good it is”.

As well as the Ulster and Irish Championships, Meara will also contest the MX1 British Championship which gets underway on the 11th of  March at Lyng. Meara will be hoping to learn as much as possible racing with some top MXGP riders and hopefully get some top ten results.

“After winning Ulster and Irish mx1 championship in 2016 my main focus for 2017 was the British championship and to push hard to be a consistent top 10 runner. I got injured 1 week before the season kicked off and wasn’t able to race at all. I suppose the thinking behind British mx1 championship for 2018 is to try ride with the faster riders to try get me back up to speed a lot faster and I’m looking forward to getting started”.

Graeme Irwin and Martin Barr pick themselves for the Irish Des Nations team but Meara’s aim will be to outperform Edmonds to earn a spot with Team Ireland at the end of the year.

“I’m not really too sure what to expect. The goal for sure is to go out and win the Ulster and Irish mx1 championship as I didn’t get to defend my title but for the British my goal is to be scoring points from the get go and making my way forward towards the top 10 were I think I’m well capable off if everything goes right.”
