Bertram Thorius continued his impressive 2026 campaign with another podium finish at Foxhill, further underlining the progress he has made this season under the factory Fantic awning. The talented youngster showed both speed and consistency across the two races, adding another strong result in what has already been an impressive season for the Danish rider.
After claiming the holeshot in the opening race before securing second place, Thorius once again battled at the front in race two despite taking some time to find his rhythm. Reflecting on his weekend, he was delighted with another podium finish.
“For sure, the first race I got a really good start. I took the holeshot, I couldn’t really catch up to Bauer but it was still a good race finishing in second. The second race, I had a good start in third but I didn’t have the best first five or ten minutes. I had to find my rhythm, but I was still able to finish second overall – another podium. Super weekend. I didn’t have the best lines to be honest at the start of race two. I was struggling with the lines, I looked at the other riders to see what they were doing. In the end I managed to find some good lines and rode better”, Thorius told GateDrop.com.
Foxhill returned to the Grand Prix calendar for the first time in 26 years and the Dane enjoyed the unique circuit, praising the work carried out by the organisers despite the dry conditions.
“Foxhill was a nice track. There was a lot of ups and downs, it was a little bit faster today but overall I really liked it. There were less ruts today, but the ruts were quite sketchy because there were some bumps in them. It was a tricky track but overall, they did a good job. They prepped it really well and watered it really good. It was good, some nice jumps too”.
While Thorius has become a regular front-runner this season, those results exceeded even his own expectations after heading into the year simply aiming to establish himself inside the top ten.
“No, I didn’t really expect these results coming into the season. Coming into the season I wanted to be consistent in the top ten. We had a really great off season with the team and worked really hard. I just try to improve and learn every weekend. Now I am pretty consistent in the top five so hopefully we can keep learning and fight to be at the top one day”.
A key figure behind that development has been experienced trainer Kenny Vandueren, with Thorius explaining just how much of an impact he has had over the past few years.
“I have worked with Kenny Vandueren for two or three years now. He is a super trainer. It means a lot to me when I am on the track. He always gives me some tips which helps me. He also shows me some lines and that helps me”.
The work is far from over, however, with Thorius already heading to Belgium to continue his development in the sand ahead of the next EMX125 round in Sweden.
“I am going to go to Belgium now with Kenny to train there for the next two or three weeks. I will put some sand riding in and try to improve so I can keep getting better”.
As for 2027, nothing has been decided yet. While he can remain in the EMX125 class for another year, a move up to the 250cc hasn’t been ruled out, the youngster insists there are no firm plans at this stage.
“I am not 100% yet what I will do in 2027. We will see what it brings. I haven’t done any laps on a 250cc yet but maybe I will soon, we’ll see”.
With another podium added to his tally and his confidence continuing to grow, Thorius’ steady progression is clear to see. If he can continue building on his impressive form and keep learning at the current rate, there is every chance he will soon be challenging for victories on a regular basis.
