Herlings on his hand injury and MXGP title chances

Jeffrey Herlings says he hopes his hand will be okay for his home GP this weekend in Arnhem after having a big crash just a few turns from home in race two as he tried to chase Prado down for the win.

“I think I’m okay. I went down quite big, my hand got caught between the handlebars. I was quite happy it was the last lap because my bike was really bent. On the last lap, just a table top before the waves, I came out of the turn, there was a lot of big kickers in there and I was with my hand between the handlebars so it’s quite swollen. Next up is Arnhem, hopefully my hand will not be too bad, it feels quite okay, it will be quite badly swollen tomorrow but hopefully it will be okay for Arnhem. We will try to make the best of it (home GP) but the most important is to get my hand good.

On his title chances Herlings said it’s not looking good after his Swedish results:

I am quite far back after this weekend, you can call it bad luck or whatever, it didn’t go the way it should have. I think it is going to be a two-way battle but I will be a very important person for both of them I guess, I feel like I am one of the only ones who can get in between them. I don’t give up I am also only 48 points down but I am also realistic. I see the other guys ride, right now Jorge is good in all kind of surfaces, it’s going to be very intense up front with Tim and Jorge, may the best one win. Hopefully I can still enjoy the party to the end but I am also realistic, let’s see where we get.

Arnhem is once again a must win for Herlings to have any chance at the title after those two unlucky first laps in Sweden undid all the hard earned points he gained in Lommel.
