Kay de Wolf celebrated his 20th birthday with the perfect birthday present – winning his first world title!
The Dutch rider had to wait until moto two after a bad start and conservative riding netted him seventh in race one.
That gave de Wolf 23 points to play with in race two with Coenen doing his job winning moto one. In race two De Wolf delivered with holeshot and took a calm second behind Coenen to clinch his first world title.
He has always had the talent but also expectation on his shoulders, and, after some learning seasons, De Wolf has now fulfilled that immense potential with a world title.
An overjoyed De Wolf said:
“Yeah, it’s amazing – on my birthday! So many emotions. This team, from the beginning on, 2018 when I was on an 85, they signed me and they kept believing in my every single day. Went through 125, EMX250 and then into MX2, it’s been unreal, I can’t do it without this team, they did an amazing job. All my family, friends, everyone around me, I appreciate it so much, we are going to celebrate this one for sure!”
