Confirmed: South African Jean Visser sets up own structure for MX2 GP challenge

There will be another South African rider on the Grand Prix scene in 2027, as Jean Visser has made the bold move to establish his own race team, Visser Racing, to compete in the MX2 World Championship.

The 19-year-old has spent the past two years racing national championships across Europe, gaining valuable experience and adapting to the European racing scene. Having taken the time to learn the tracks and get accustomed to the level of competition, Visser has now decided that the time is right to step up to the World Championship.

Rather than joining a team, the South African will take an independent approach by setting up his own structure, giving him greater control over his racing programme. Visser Racing will be based in Lommel, Belgium, with Visser planning to travel from race to race in a camper while contesting all the European-based MX2 World Championship rounds on Husqvarna machinery.

While the move represents a significant step forward in his career, the focus for 2027 will be on gaining experience, developing as a rider and continuing to build towards his long-term ambitions.

“I’m really excited to set up Visser Racing for the 2027 season and race all the European based MX2 World Championship rounds. Setting up our own independent structure gives us full control over our programme and making a more professional approach towards racing. We’ll travel from race to race in our camper but we have a base in Lommel, Belguim. The goal for next year is to gain valuable experience, learn each race and keep building towards becoming a better rider. Ive been living in Europe for two years now doing lots of National Championship races to get use to the European racing scene. It’s a big step going to the World Stage but we have a great support system and we’re ready for the challenge”, Visser told GateDrop.com.

With Visser now preparing for his first full campaign on the MX2 World Championship stage, 2027 will be an important year as he learns and adapts to racing in the GP scene.

The following announcement was made on social media:

“Excited to share my next new chapter: Visser Racing Team. Beyond grateful to my family for making this possible and always having my back no matter what. None of this happens without their constant support and belief in me”.

“Also big thanks to all the new sponsors hoping onboard this project and giving there support and help towards this. Excited to do all the MX2 World Championship rounds based on European soil with an open mind, ready to learn, gain valuable experience, and build step by step against the best in the world”.

“Huge thank you to everyone in my corner supporting this journey. Let’s get to work! Follow @visser_racing for more behind the scene content, bike builds, testing, sponsor announcements and more”.
