It has been a year of progress for Brian Gyles, with the young rider contesting the EMX125 series alongside the 125cc British Championship.
Gyles 2026 season isn’t over yet though as he is in China as he prepares to make his MX2 World Championship debut at the penultimate round of the series this weekend.
For Gyles, the trip to China is all about gaining valuable experience, learning as much as possible and enjoying the opportunity to race on the world stage. With limited time spent riding a four-stroke machine, there are no major expectations heading into the weekend.
Reflecting on his season so far, Gyles feels the progress made by himself and those around him has been significant, with his pace in Turkey showing that he can run with the leading riders in the EMX125 class.
“We had an awesome year and improved a lot with everyone on our team – me, my Dad, trainer and the team manager. Now we are ready for next season as we showed in Turkey, our speed is similar to the top riders in the EMX125 class”, Gyles told GateDrop.com.
The opportunity to step up to MX2 in China will provide Gyles with an important first taste of the level required in the World Championship, while also giving him experience that could prove valuable in the future.
“Now we have the opportunity to enter the MX2 World Championship in China to gain some experience. We don’t expect too much as we didn’t have the chance to practice so much on a four stroke so we will see”, concluded Gyles.
Looking ahead to 2027, Gyles already has a clear plan. The focus will be firmly on the EMX125 Championship, with the goal of contesting every round of the series and challenging at the front of the field.
After a season of steady progress, Gyles will now get the chance to test himself against the world’s best in China before turning his attention towards another season in the EMX125 class in 2027.
