MX1 race results: British Championship RD1 – Hawkstone Park

Moto one: Oriol Oliver passed early race leader, Adam Sterry, then held of a charge from Ben Watson to take the first win of the year on a very tough Hawkstone Park circuit in the relentless rain. Taylor Hammal rode great in third with Conrad Mewse coming from tenth to fourth and Sterry fifth.

Moto two: Ben Watson took the holeshot and checked out in the second moto with Oriol staying close to Watson early but going down just as Watson poured on the speed. Still, it was a strong day for Oriol who took second in the moto and second overall with Mewse third after a slightly better start in fifth, to seal third overall. But it Watson and Oliver who had the superior pace all day over the rest. Taylor Hammal had another great ride with fourth doing what he could to stay with Mewse in race two.

Watson said: “I thought it was a good time to take some checkered flags (racing British championship again) and get that spark for winning again. I am a little bit too comfortable getting top ten in GPs and I feel like if get that hunger and excitement back it can hopefully bring me on in the world stage. It’s nice to have something under me that I have so much conifidence in on the start, really enjoying that part of the changeover.”
