Kay de Wolf put the disappointment of narrowly losing the world title to show his speed in America to win the MX2 individually

We caught up with the latest Dutch supertalent to hear about his weekend and plans to ride a 450 next weekend in Holland!

Individually, it couldn’t really have went much better. What are your thoughts on your own performance there? You battled Justin Cooper, Sasha Coenen hard all day and came out on top of the MX2 overall win.

Yeah, in short in both motos I was the fastest, catch them, left them, so yeah, showed always I had great speed and had a really good day. I just had a lot of fun on my bike and really enjoyed it so that’s the most important thing. And yeah! of course winning the 250 class is something special.

I imagine that was the goal coming in and after what happened in Australia it’s so close to our world title, have that hurt you were able to take it out on the track this weekend?

Maybe a little bit but of course I always wanted to do my best and always want to win. Also do good for my country, from the crash from Glen yesterday, hopefully he won’t have too many problems with it this winter so he can start a new season. But yeah everybody gave it all so we’re really happy.

How disappointing is that because Glenn didn’t even make a mistake it was probably more a flagging issue and it affects obviously him the most with the game but as a team you can’t get the results you probably would have been capable of.

Yeah I saw it happen and it was a nasty crisis straight away run up to him and I could have straight I saw straight away that it wasn’t good so yeah was a bummer but me and Calvin gave it all and even Glenn gave it all. He went to the medical this morning and wanted to do a lab for us that we at least got classified properly but now we ended up being 20th or whatever 19 because Glenn couldn’t start the moto so yeah we are gonna be a high number for next year.

A couple of weeks ago in Australia, you and Simon were going at it making contact and the same with Deegan and Shimoda in SMX. Were you looking forward to racing Degan this weekend? Obviously it didn’t work out but that was kind of what everyone was excited for.

Yeah of course I wanted to race Hayden, Obama that he couldn’t come because of his shoulder injury but yeah like I said before I showed that I was the fastest 250 again this weekend so that’s the most important thing.

Your 250 career has been brilliant. Are you the option riding 450 next year? Do you know what you’re doing yet?

I have the option but at this point I don’t know. I will decide in the next few weeks.

And I believe you before you’re riding a 450 next weekend against Herlings and all again so your season doesn’t quite end yet even the most people’s are!

Next weekend we’re still gonna have a Dutch race in Valkenswaard, so yeah it’s gonna be a cool one racing against Jeffrey normally Glenn was gonna race, probably won’t now and then Liam will show his 450 speed as well there.

So it’s gonna be a mini GP there getting to race Jeffrey again is something to look forward to I guess.

Definitely with Liam coming up and then me and Jeffrey it’s gonna be a nice event I think and it’s gonna be a stacked 450 class.
