450cc race results: AMA Nationals RD3 – Thunder Valley – Roczen wins

In the opening moto, it was the fast starting Antonio Cairoli who took the holeshot ahead of Ken Roczen in a European 1-2 for the first couple of laps! Roczen didn’t take long to get around the nine times world champion and started to pull away at the front. The German got the gap out to five seconds before a small tip over but he was able to remount and stay in the lead.

Chase Sexton and Eli Tomac were the riders on the move as the pair were locked in a battle but Tomac was able to pass Barcia to pull away. The Star Yamaha rider then made a move on Jason Anderson to get into second when he put the hammer down to close the gap to Roczen in a couple of laps.

It didn’t take Tomac long to get himself into the lead and then pull away at the front in what was an impressive ride.

Anderson was able to hold off Sexton for a well earn third while Cairoli passed Barcia to finish fifth.

In race two the start was a carbon copy of the opening moto with Cairoli getting out of the gate fast ahead of Ken Roczen. Just like moto one, Roczen didn’t take long to get into the lead and pull away at the front.

Cairoli was riding well after Sexton and Tomac passed him keeping them in his sights until the halfway mark when a mistake cost him a lot of time.

At the front Sexton caught and passed Roczen to take what looked like a comfortable victory but then with only a couple of corners to go crashed gifting the win to his team mate.

Roczen had fought really hard to keep Tomac behind him and ended up winning the second moto and the overall in what was a great day for the German.
