The MXE 50 racing experience at Loket

The MXE 50 racing experience at Loket

Along with a mix of nationalities at the MXE 50 championship race on the MXGP weekend at Loket, two Irish boys got the experience of a lifetime!

Gareth Crothers, a former Irish motocross competitor who now lives in Slovakia, took his young son Kristian along to race the event and it was there they met another Irish competitor, Mathew Magee, who had travelled over with his family to experience not only a GP but get to race on the track himself – a dream for a young motocross enthusiast!

“We love the e-bike,” confessed Gareth about the electric bike rapidly moving into the sport. “Kristian won’t ride the gas bike any more – its been sitting in the shed since getting the e-bike. No air filters, no oil changes, etc. It’s great!

“The KTM experience is amazing,” continued Gareth on their weekend in the big leagues. “The kids get treated like factory riders.. an experience they will never forget. Meeting the McGee’s really made the weekend even more special. The boys are around the same age and got on great! Vincent (Matthew’s father) and I spoke of the old days racing at home. They also invited us back to their rented apartment for two nights, which made my wife very happy as sleeping in the van was cold during the night!

“All in all, meeting the McGee’s and racing in the MXE championship has been our best racing experience so far. And I would encourage all families that have a rider between 6-8 years old to at least try to make to a few rounds. We are hooked, definitely next year we will try to race the full mxe season and it should bring him on as a rider.

Like the MXE AMA supercross events for kids, the MXE class in MXGP is now giving kids a way to experience something they can usually only dream about, and ride the same track as their MXGP heroes!
