The latest on Jeffrey Herlings – back on the bike this week?

There’s been a lot of speculation about what Jeffrey Herlings plans are once he gets back on a bike, the possibility of him racing the AMA Nationals hasn’t been ruled out. When we spoke to Dirk Gruebel from KTM in Portugal he told us the following:

“There’s a lot of rumours and nothing is confirmed like you say. We don’t know either – I would love him back here because this is the series, and this is the team of course”.

The fact of the matter is that Herlings still isn’t back on the bike just yet but that could be about to change. We believe from a reliable source that Herlings will ride the bike this week which is the news we’ve all been waiting for.

Once Herlings gets back on the bike and see how he feels he will then make a decision on what he’ll do this year whether that’s racing the AMA Nationals or the MXGP World Championship.

With the AMA National season getting under way on the 28th of May at Fox Raceway it doesn’t give the MXGP World Champion a lot of time to prepare and be fully up to speed after a big injury.

Perhaps Herlings might even try to race an MXGP World Championship event before the AMA opener so he can see what his race pace is like and then make the final decision.

With an MXGP event taking place at Riola Sardo on the 14th and 15th of May that would be perfect preparation but will he make it? Time will tell…

We will continue to keep you updated as and when we hear more on the situation but whether it’ll be the AMA Nationals or MXGP World Championship, it will just be nice to see Herlings make a return to racing doing what he does best.
