Norman KTM Racing could be set to expand their presence in the Grand Prix paddock for the 2027 season, with the team understood to be preparing an EMX250 programme alongside their existing EMX125 effort.
The Norman KTM Racing squad have enjoyed their first season in the Grand Prix paddock after taking on the official KTM EMX125 programme. It has already proven to be a hugely successful campaign for the team, with Ricardo Bauer securing both the 125cc Junior World Championship and the EMX125 title.
Bauer has enjoyed a superb season, while teammate Moritz Ernecker was also firmly in championship contention before an injury halted his progress. Despite missing time through injury, Ernecker remains second in the EMX125 standings with just one round of the championship remaining in Turkey this weekend. Norman KTM Racing will be hoping to finish the season with a 1-2 in the final championship standings.
However, the team’s plans are understood to extend beyond the EMX125 series for 2027. We understand that Norman KTM Racing are preparing to expand its operation to the EMX250 Championship next season, with Ernecker expected to be part of the team as he’ll step up to the EMX250 class for his rookie season. The Austrian could potentially be joined by talented Hungarian rider Áron Katona, which would give Norman KTM Racing a very strong rider line-up for their first season in EMX250 competition.
We also understand that former Grand Prix rider Pierre-Alexandre Renet has been recruited by the team to manage the EMX250 operation. Renet had an offer to take on a management role with the factory Yamaha MX2 team, but it is understood that he has instead opted for a new challenge with KTM.
The Norman KTM Racing operation is also expected to continue running the official KTM EMX125 programme in 2027, meaning the team would have a significant presence across both the EMX125 and EMX250 championships.
Thomas Traversini is expected to remain involved with the EMX125 project after playing an important role in the development of KTM’s younger talents in recent years.
With Bauer already crowned EMX125 and 125cc Junior World Champion and Ernecker pushing for second in the championship, Norman KTM Racing has made an impressive start to life in the Grand Prix paddock. Expanding into the EMX250 class would represent another significant step for the team as they continue to build their KTM-supported programme.
