The past two years Ivo Monticelli has been a factory rider in the MXGP paddock. After showing good results on the JK Yamaha, the Standing Construct KTM team decided to sign him up and then they became the full factory GasGas team in 2020.
The Italian then moved onto the Factory Kawasaki team for the 2021 season and showed good pace at the start of the season before injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Heading into the 2022 season which is scheduled to get underway in February, we believe that Monticelli has inked a deal with the JM Honda Racing team – he’ll be under the watchful eye of Jacky Martens.
It means Monticelli will lose his status as a full factory rider in the MXGP paddock but perhaps not having to deal with that pressure could help him but the most important thing for him will be to stay injury free as the past few years have been difficult for him in that respect.
