Results: MX2 British Grand Prix – Geerts wins his final MX2 GP in a classic!

Simon Laengenfelder led a freight train of speed in moto one but no passes were made even if second place Benistant and third placed Jago Geerts closed right up to the leader at the end of the moto but no-one could make a pass on the fast track. Andrea Adamo was fourth, losing ground to the top three eventually but held off Roan van de Moosdijk and a charging Kay de Wolf.

Race two was superb as Liam Everts holeshot with Geerts back in sixth but Kay de Wolf was on a mission and passed Liam for the lead as Jago made some early moves, even passing first moto winner Laengenfelder.

As the race settled, it was De Wolf from Adamo and Geerts and the rapid trio pulled away from the rest of the field, all with the win within their grasp. With three laps to go, Adamo nearly passed De Wolf but Geerts timed his charge to perfection, squaring Adamo off for second then using a similar move with two laps to go to take the lead, then hold off a charging de Wolf on the final lap to take the moto win and GP win in his last ever MX2 Grand Prix.

If anyone deserved a bit of joy after a heart and bone breaking season it was Jago, who leaves the class winning the last two GPs to end his career and the knowledge he was the fastest rider out there.

It also secured second overall in the championship with that moto win edging Laengenfelder out by just four points, but has there ever been a tougher route to second in the championship?
