Race results: WMX RD3 – Van Drunen wins at Lugo

It was another exciting WMX race for the first race of the weekend at a superb Lugo circuit. The track has a bit of everything, big jumps, sandy sections and slick turns.  It was Courtney Duncan who got the holeshot on her F&H Kawasaki leading the way. Lotte van Drunen and Daniela Guillen didn’t get the best of starts but were fourth and fifth by the end of the first lap.

Guillen started to pressure van Drunen but then tipped over.  Van Drunen then had her sights on for Fontonesi for second and was able to make a move stick.

The Dutch talent was then quickly on the back of Duncan but the kiwi responded by starting to do the triple and that saw of the threat of the Dutch talent. Welcome to the 2024 season, Courtney!

Larissa Papenmeier rounded out the top five on her Honda ahead of Sara Anderson.

The second race was on as Duncan got the holeshot but she had Van Drunen for company as the pair started to pull away from the rest of the field. It was a game of cat and mouse between the pair but Van Drunen made a move and then ran away with things at the front. A statement win from the Dutch sensation.

Despite looking dissapointed on the podium, it hadn’t been a good start to the season for Duncan but at least she was able to win a moto and get back on the box.

Guillen didn’t get a good start but was able to battle back to third to secure a podium and by the time she got into third the front two were gone.

Valk had a better ride in race two and looked to have fourth secured but Fontanesi got away around her on the final lap. Barker rode well to secure a ten position.
