Race results: WMX RD1 – Guillen wins at home in Spain

Race One: The opening moto didn’t disappoint as the heavy hitters went at it. It was Courtney Duncan who held the early lead with Lynn Valk second. The Dutch rider had pressure from behind with Daniela Guillen and Lotte van Drunen.

Once Guillen got into second she started to close on Duncan before backmarkers played havoc and Duncan went down gifting the lead to Gullen. Van Drunen also got herself into second  and started to close on the lead too – she was doing the triple most lap which requires big balls!

Guillen did well to regroup and end up winning the first moto of the year in front of her crazy home fans!

Race Two: It was another cracker for moto two! It was van Drunen who held the early race lead on her de Beats Yamaha ahead of the fast starting Valk but Guillen and Duncan were right there.

It didn’t take long for Guillen to get into second but then Duncan had issues!

Guillen closed to van Drunen and tried to pressure her but couldn’t make a pass stick – she even starting doing the triple! They were running a hot pace – over a minute and twenty seconds ahead of third with Sara Anderson impressing.

With around five minutes to go Guillen made the pass but van Druenen didn’t go away and the pair were side by side the last couple of laps but Guillen held on strong to take the a very impressive victory.

Valk had a solid day going 4-4 for third overall.
