Race results: MX2 World Championship RD17 – Mantova

Race One:

Maxime Renaux showed exactly why he’s MX2 World Champion in the opening race as he got a good start and led every lap controlling things at the front. Behind him saw a good battle for second that Rene Hofer held before a crash demoted him down to sixth. Hofer’s crash saw Geerts finish in second despite some pressure from Vialle and having to deal with google issues.

The second moto was all about the Factory Yamaha riders! Tom Vialle had the early lead but Jago Geerts made a move on lap seven to take the lead while Maxime Renaux was the man on the move. The MX2 World Champion was seventh after the first corner but made a number of quick passes.

Renaux quickly followed Geerts through on Vialle and not much separated the pair with Geerts holding on – they were setting a very high pace at the front.

The moto win give Geerts the overall win, it’s been a difficult year for the Belgian and only his third overall win of the year but he’s now back riding at his true level which is good to see and he’s only seven points of Vialle the race for second in the championship.
