Race results: EMX Open RD3 – Kegums – Butron wins

Giuseppe Tropepe rode well and had a dominating race win in the first EMX Open race of the weekend but the Italian jumped under waved yellows and a medical flag so got docked ten spots ending up eleventh in the race classification.

With Tropepe getting docked, it left Jose Butron as the race winner ahead of the impressive Gert Krestinov.

There was drama on the second lap as championship leader, Michael Sandner collided with Erki Kahro and couldn’t finish the race so that’s big championship points lost. Raf Meuwissen who sat third in the championship also had a crash meaning a DNF.

In the second moto it was fast starting Meico Vettik who held the early lead on his two-stroke but then a small top over left Jere Haavisto at the front and demoted Vettik to tenth. Haavisto was looking comfortable at the front but with ten minutes to go Giuseppe Tropepe pulled out the pin to catch the Finn and pass him.

Michael Sandner was holding onto third despite racing in some discomfort after yesterday’s crash and had Jose Butron close to the back of him in what was an intense battle but the Austrian could hold onto third meaning he keeps the red plate despite the DNF in moto one. Butron ended up with the overall win and with a point between the pair in the championship it’s all to play for. Vettik was able to get back up to fifth after his first lap crash.
