Official: Calum Mitchell steps away from the sport

Things can change quickly in motocross. Just last year, Calum Mitchell was celebrating the biggest moment of his career after securing his first British Championship victory. Now, following a devastating run of injuries, the talented British rider has announced his decision to step away from professional racing.

After enduring a brutal spell on the sidelines, Mitchell has decided that his priority is making a full recovery, both physically and mentally, following what has been an incredibly challenging period.

“I think it’s time I let my body rest. The past 10 weeks has been difficult with the head injury, the broken femur, crushed vertebrae and the pneumonia to top it off. I’ve been in situations that I really don’t want to be in so it’s time to step away from the sport to make a full recovery mentally and physically. Thank you to my family and sponsors for understanding and thank you to all the people who contributed to my go fund me and this recovery everything helps”, Mitchell stated on social media.

The focus for Mitchell is now firmly on his rehabilitation, with the aim of recovering away from the pressures of professional competition after an incredibly difficult year.

We would like to wish Mitchell all the very best with his recovery and whatever comes next.
