Official: ACL injury forces John Adamson to step away from racing

After years of racing across the UK, Europe and even America, collecting professional titles and building lifelong friendships along the way, John Adamson has announced that he is stepping away from motocross competition following an ACL injury.

What began as a return to riding “just for fun” turned into an unforgettable journey in the sport, but after suffering the injury shortly after finally feeling comfortable on his bike again, Adamson admits his immediate focus is now simply getting back on his feet. Reflecting on the highs, the people who supported him and the memories created, Adamson shared an emotional message about his career and future plans.

“Down and this time out. An old Peter Greenwood photo came up today. 8 years ago I started riding again just for fun with my guy big Scot.  Never did I think it would turn into traveling all over Europe and even America racing my bike as a job. I managed a few pro titles along the way and meet so many amazing friends for life”.

“I started for fun and ended having fun with the whole Phoenix Tools Racing crew. It is frustrating for everyone as finally at Hawkstone I felt comfortable with the bike and the next week I tore my ACL while training”

“I have a job to walk just now so MX is out the window and this is a goodbye to racing. I’ve got some plans to race indoors over the winter but will need to see how the recover and knee is”.

“Been so many people helped me along the way and I’ll be forever grateful to them – allowing me to do what every young kid riding bikes dreams of”

While Adamson’s outdoor motocross career now appears to have come to an end, the door may not be completely closed on racing altogether, with the Scot still hopeful of racing some Arenacross events in the future if his recovery progresses well. Regardless of what comes next, Adamson leaves the sport with plenty to be proud of after turning a passion for riding into a successful career filled with memories, achievements and friendships that will last a lifetime.
