Hunter Lawrence looked to have the first moto win under control at Red Bud despite Chase Sexton being within striking distance, until, with a lap and a half to go, Hunter went down hard and it changed his day and maybe the championship momentum.
Lawrence would hand the win to Sexton and then take a detuned fourth after an average start saying he couldn’t go faster as his head wasn’t quite right. Sexton took the win again and he now has a seven point lead over Hunter in the championship with five rounds to go. If Hunter had hung on for the first moto win he would have had a six point lead over Sexton going into moto two – was the crash a decisive swing in points? Time will tell.
