Kay de Wolf has opened up on the foot injury he sustained a few weeks ago and admitted he thought that his season may have been over! But the Dutchman decided to wait until after the MXoN for an operation to allow him to keep learning on a 450 in his rookie year in preparation for 2027.
Kay told us: “If you looked around four to five weeks ago, I think it was, we were sitting in the hospital and we were even doubting if we were still going to race this season at all. So, I’m just here trying to survive the season and learning and that’s what we’ve done.”
The Dutch super-talent added in the press conference: “Yeah, I will probably need surgery in the winter, but It will only be better for my career. So we’re gonna take it this winter and it won’t be too long So I’m happy with that actually, but yeah, like I said, it will be better for my career.
Does it affect him on the track? “It feels a bit unstable So this morning actually right here. I landed deep in a bump And that’s the biggest problem as soon as I G out. I will be too far my toes So I have to put my foot a bit more forward But yeah, I mean we can manage it and as long as we can manage it we can learn and yeah That’s what we’re here for. So now I’m just pleased to be here be on the podium and looking forward for the next few GPs and just learn.”
Motocross riders are tough and de Wolf is no exception but his potential on a 450 is clear despite a stop/start season, and he should be a real threat once he is fully fit again and can ride consistently at his immense potential.
