Jett Lawrence on his comeback podium at Pala

He might still be limping due to his injury but it is still hard to slow Jett Lawrence down! The Australian came through the back in both motos to take third overall despite not racing since 2025 and he even won the first head-to-head battle with Haiden Deegan in moto one!

The genius is back and it should only get better from here!

Jett said: Obviously, the end goal is always to want to win. But I think just how my foot is and coming back of not riding and racing for so long, it feels like it’s been years. It’s okay, you know, we had to go a lot of cobwebs off and just kind of get racing  again  and just deal with a few little kind of hiccups and stuff like that, you know?

Just little nerves that you don’t normally think of, and stuff like that, or even just like with little bikes and other things, you know, I had my throttle cable too tight, you know, and causing the arm pump.

So there’s little things like that where I’m like wasn’t thinking some just like, trying to make sure my foot’s good and stuff like that. But it was good to be back, you know, it’s adrenaline rushing in and being on the gate, then like butterflies you get right before the gate drop goes on. We need to work on them. My starts suck, so hopefully work on them this week, but it was good to be back.

But the defending champ said he didn’t feel as good on the bike even if he still looked smooth and fast…having to adjust hus riding and put is weight more on his good leg!

Jett  commented: “I think the biggest thing for me is just like, I’m glad I may look like on myself, but I don’t feel like, you know, I just feel things that we almost take for granted, you know, like this is being a little more efficient, you know, I’m pretty like lopsided.

“Every jump I’m landing, I’m landing with all my weight on my left, and then coming out of, like, some of the turns where they have those edgy bumps, you know, where you want to, like, get up on both feet and kind of grip, I can’t really do that because when I hop up and then hit those edges and, like, that kills the heck out of my foot, you know, that quick jar and impact, so those things have gone through that and just trying to figure it out.

“So I’m pretty unefficient, so I think with body wise, you know, like, my left leg’s higher than my right arm’s higher because I’m holding on higher than my right arm to make up for my right leg, so it’s just figuring most things out and obviously, like, kind of said, you know, riding a dirt bike right now is actually really easier than when I’m walking!

“I  look like a cripple when I’m walking around, you know, so it’s just, yeah, part of it. We’re just going to keep on learning, trying to figure out during the weeks between motos, what works, what makes a foot better, and stuff like that, just for giving  myself a better chance on race day. Everyone’s really good, it’s pretty hard to beat people that are their 100% or feel pretty good, you know? I feel like a $2 t-shirt, so we’re going to try and get better for next weekend.

On battling Deegan for the first time in moto one, Jett wasn’t that bothered, saying he was just trying to figure out his own situation!  “I mean, I was kind of trying to figure out my own stuff, you know, I was dealing with trying to get into a flow and stuff like that, so I was more focused on myself, and it was just kind of another rider out there, you know, it wasn’t a, oh, it’s a different person, you know, figure it out, you know, I was just trying to figure myself out first, and then put that into this way, and try and link laps together.”
