Jett Lawrence was fined by the AMA as well as receiving a point on his license after giving the middle finger to a chirping Deegan after the Aussie fell in practice. The AMA deemed Jett violated the code of conduct and dealt out the punishment.
The AMA stated: “Race Direction reviewed an incident involving rider #1 (Lawrence) and rider #38 (Deegan) in section 11. After review, it was determined that rider #1 (Lawrence) violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition. Rider #1 (Lawrence) was assessed one rider license point and a fine.”
Deegan said in the press conference of the incident: “ “I don’t know dude, I just asked if he’s okay and I get flipped off! No… I’m sure if they knew what I said I’d probably get fined.. just playing! It was good, I love the banter, it gets me fired up. I mean you guys can see that I was going for it today, it gives me something to chase and obviously Jett’s the guy.”
The middle finger incident came in Q2 after the duo had already got into it in Q1 when Deegan irritated Jett by getting in the way and roosting him, so Jett returned the favour and said after: “My tyre was full of mud, so I just wanted to clean it out. Normally it works better with no mud in between the grooves so I just want to clean it out real quick.”
Still, after all that, Deegan is still to beat Jett in a moto…but he is doing everything he can to get there!
