Jeffrey Herlings on his MXoN and Jett Lawrence

Jeffrey Herlings had a tough MXoN with a couple of crashes, dealing with a determined Ken Roczen in every moto, including one when he got a rare good start and then a bad start in the all star final moto meant he had a lot of work to do in all three of his motos across the weekend.

His pace was there for top three but he never really got the chance to show it, even if he was making a late race charge and caught both Hunter and holeshot man Eli Tomac at the end of the third moto.

The reality is, without the crashes for Glenn, Kay and Jeffrey the Dutch could well have been on the top step! It’s fine margins and Herlings said of his day: “The end of the year and we won a lot this season and took a podium finish at the Nations. The goal was the world championship but that was not possible although I am pleased that I raced twenty GPs and I finished 59 motos. I want to thank the entire team for their hard work and their contribution to all of it.”

Speaking to Lewis Phillips, Herlings, the self admitted number one fan of Jett Lawrence, said he expected Jett to be faster!

First moto I went down on the second lap, picked it up around 12-15 and fought my way back to fifth. It wasn’t the easiest track to pass on just because of the weather, it was drizzling with rain all day. It wasn’t fun. Second moto I really had a bad start, I was around 8-10, I lost a lot of time with Kenny. Kenny is very fast and explosive in the beginning, I would go back and forwards with him but the guys up front gained a lot of time. I had the speed to potentially win but I didn’t due to crashes and whatever happened. But it’s alright, we are on the podium.”

On Jett: “I was fighting with Kenny, I couldnt get passed Kenny and he passed him straight away and I lost another two laps again with Kenny and he (Jett) was faster that me anyway. I expected him to be more faster than me than he was. I think he got me around ten seconds, I’m still his number one fan, but I thought he would be more fast than he actually was. I was surprised he didn’t beat me by a bigger difference.”
