After Conrad Mewse pulled out of the British GP on Sunday night, his British championship rival, Josh Gilbert, is also now out of his home GP, thanks to a virus.
In another blow for British fans, Gilbert said: “Gutted to say I’m having to sit out Matterley Basin, MXGP this weekend due to being diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus. After really struggling for energy at the British I went for a blood test which confirmed the virus. It’s been a tough call, but health has to come first. This race means a lot to me, and missing it really stings—especially with it being on home soil. Now time to focus on recovery and coming back stronger. Thanks to everyone behind me.”
Hopefully the smooth riding Englishman can be back soon and showing his full potential at World and British championship level.
