Everts injury update as Coenen apologises after clash that left Everts needing urgent medical attention

Lucas Coenen and Liam Everts went for the same rut in race two in China as Coenen went for the pass on the inside butt, unfortunately, it left Liam going down hard when his front wheel got taken out and he went violently over the bars and into the ground.

Liam lay on the track for a couple of laps with medics immediately all around him and Lucas Coenen admitted he lost concentration during the race thinking about Liam because he felt bad about the contact and that he didn’t realise Liam would be there.

In an update on Everts condition it has been reported on Liam’s social media: “Following a bad crash early in the second race, Liam was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that his 5th cervical vertebra (neck) is fractured. He’s regaining feeling in his arms and legs. We’re currently waiting for more updates.”

Liam of course was due to be Lucas big bike teammate for team Belgium in three weeks at the MXoN.

A concerned Lucas, who got it together again late to run down De Wolf to go 1-1, said: “I apologise to Liam, I didn’t know, I thought he would go more outside and I hit him. I am so pissed off (at himself). I saw his father and I am like ‘shit what did I do.’ The whole moto I was not in my rhythm because of that but I hope he is okay.”

Get well soon Liam.
