Chase Sexton admitted a “last minute” change to his settings on the KTM on the Monday before A1 gave him the feeling he has been searching for the last 12 months. Sexton went out and proved it at Anaheim looking the best he ever has on the KTM indoors and back to what he was on the Honda. The real Chase Sexton looks to be back in Supercross – but he isn’t settling.

“I am not planning on settling anytime soon, I still think I can be better and I wouldn’t say that it was a perfect race by me. There is obviously stuff I need to improve on, it’s a long season. I need to go back to work on Tuesday at the track. But today was definitely repeatable, it was just nice feeling the flow again, I haven’t really felt that since outdoors last year and before that was supercross the year before.

Chase then mentioned that he felt bad running over a stricken Eli Tomac in the first lap chaos!

“I felt bad, I ran over Eli the first lap, I had nowhere to go, I felt bad. It was a good race and I had a really good feeling on the track. I was more looking for a feel all last year that I never really found. In outdoors I felt good and i never really changed my bike and it was a pretty awesome summer but then I went to SMX and it was kind of like starting back at zero, I didn’t really know where to go and we didn’t make much progress then we really narrowed in on what we needed to work on, one was starts and one was getting a better feeling on the bike…it was actually Monday before the race this week that I found the feeling I was looking for or at least towards that direction. Last minute but I knew after Monday we were going to be in a good spot, I felt racey and back to being explosive”.

Every time Chase Sexton previously had the momentum, Jett Lawrence has come back and shut it down quickly, now with Jett getting 12th we asked Chase if he was really going to try and take advantage and continue the momentum he had: “It’s a long season and there is a lot of stuff that can happen, it is just the first race. I am only focused on what I can do and I think that is the biggest difference from years past, I have been focusing on what everyone else was doing and this year I really don’t care, I am just trying to be the best I can be on Saturday and if that’s winning that’s awesome.

I am excited but, yeah, Jett will be back, he is a great rider and looking forward to battling but there is not just him, Eli is really, really good, Jason, Kenny, Hunter – everyone is riding really well. It can change on any given night, the series is long and with this stacked of a field it can change in a heartbeat so, for me, just focus on what I can do, getting good starts and getting out of the chaos.
