Can Sexton and Nicoletti help Herlings starts?

Bad starts (and a DNF due to a bike failure) are a large part of the reason Jeffrey Herlings is still chasing points in the MXGP World Championship compared to Tim Gajser and Jorge Prado who are both fantastic starter and right in an intense battle for the championship.

But Herlings hasn’t been the only one chasing better starts. Despite leading the AMA Nationals, Chase Sexton has also been looking for a better jump out of the gate and his starts have just recently improved thanks to none other than Phil Nicoletti!

“You know who actually gave me the idea, and you’re not going to believe this, it was Phil,” explained Sexton in the press conference. “It was Millville and I was like, ‘Phil, how do you get such good starts, and he’s like, ‘ you know what I think your problem is, I think it’s something about you and your clutch.’ Today after the first practice start wasn’t good, and I was like, yeah, we are changing the clutch, give me the Phil setting.”

Herlings of course was running an update to his machine in Sweden but it didn’t lead to any holeshots – maybe KTM/Herlings should try the Nicoletti/Sexton clutch settings – KTM shouldn’t have a problem contacting their top US rider to get the scoop!
