Isak Gifting will continue with JK Yamaha for the 2027 MXGP World Championship season, extending his time with the team into a fourth consecutive year.
The Swedish talent made the move up to the MXGP World Championship in 2024 and has been under the JK Yamaha awning ever since. The partnership has provided Gifting with the opportunity to establish himself in the premier class, and both parties will now continue working together for another season.
Gifting endured a frustrating 2026 campaign after an injury forced him to miss the opening part of the season. However, since he made his GP return to action at Foxhill, the Swede has demonstrated encouraging speed and already shown the potential to fight inside the top ten.
Importantly, Gifting will continue to receive engines from factory Yamaha, providing him with valuable backing as he looks to make another step forward in the MXGP World Championship next year. He’ll hope to have a full off season under his belt heading into the 2027 season and start the season in a better position that the 2026 season.
The team posted the following announcement on social media:
“We are proud to announce that Isak Gifting has officially signed an extension with JK Racing Yamaha, locking in his 4th consecutive season to take on the MXGP World Championship and MX1 Italian Championship. We are thrilled to confirm that our program will once again benefit with factory engines package, backed by the support of Yamaha Motor Europe.”
Isak Gifting: “It’s with great pleasure that I can announce I’ll be staying with JK Yamaha for the 2027 season! It feels like family to me, and I’m really happy to continue this journey together.
After a season heavily affected by an early pre-season injury, I’m more motivated than ever to come back stronger and get the revenge I’m looking for”
I’m going all in for 2027!
JK Yamaha exploring the possibility of adding a second MXGP rider
With Gifting confirmed for 2027, we believe that JK Yamaha are also exploring the possibility of expanding their MXGP programme by adding a second rider to the line-up.
The team has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Yamaha and will continue running the Japanese manufacturer’s machinery next season despite the wider changes to Yamaha’s factory racing structure. Adding another MXGP rider would be an interesting development for the Italian-based team as they look to strengthen their presence in the premier class.
For now, Gifting is confirmed as the team’s first rider for 2027, but it will be interesting to see if they can secure another signing to join him.
With another season alongside JK Yamaha and continued factory support, Gifting will be hoping to build on the speed he has shown and establish himself towards the sharp end of the MXGP field.
