It was the dream moto for Jorge Prado with a world title on the line at home in Spain and a bit fo a nightmate for Tim Gajser. Prado, the championship leader by seven points, took the holeshot and led wire to wire despite the hovering Jeffrey Herlings who seemed to be playing wingman, catching Prado but then doing a wheelie down the pit straight while looking at his team with a lap to go!

Herlings was showing the speed was the there but wouldn’t bring any risk into Prado’s championship weekend, staying just behind the defending champ.

A relieved Prado took a huge win as Gajser didn’t get the start he needed to even challenge Prado, he came from eighth to third, but he couldn’t go with Herlings when the Dutchman upped the pace to inch closer to Prado. It’s going to be a tough day for Gajser tomorrow, both Herlings had Prado have the pace and it looks like he will need some help.

Prado can now afford to go 2-3 if Gajser wins both motos on Sunday and he will still clinch the MXGP title in front of his home crowd.

A smiling Prado said: “It was a very good day. Actually, these conditions are not my favourite, the track is unbelievably hard, so many stones, not ideal. We got the job done, that was the main thing. I had to push for it, not my favourite conditions, we are still making it happen. P1 today let’s go for P1 twice tomorrow.”
