Ben Watson has admitted his start to the 2022 MXGP season has not been ideal on the new Kawasaki but says he won’t be giving up and expects to get back to the sharp end.
After losing his Yamaha factory ride to Maxime Renaux in somewhat brutal circumstances, Watson has seen the three MX2 new rookies, Renaux, Beaton and Fernandez come in and perform well and even Thomas Kjer Olsen has stepped up his game in 2022. They are all riders Watson is more than capable of running with as he showed in MX2 but, with it being his first year on Kawasaki, no teammate to bounce off of with the Romain Febvre injury and being a bit battered and bruised himself, Watson has struggled to show his real form.
An honest Watson said: “(The) 2022 season has been a very tough one up to now. Itâs clear I havenât been feeling myself at all this year but changes have been made and I wonât give up until Iâm back at the front. A lot changed for me coming in to this season and I trusted it would take me to that next step but itâs clear it doesnât work for me. I know the potential I have and Iâll be backâĤ Thank you to everyone who has been behind me and to my team and all the sponsors for the continued support through tough times I really appreciate it. Letâs go for Portugal this weekend.”
