MC, the King of supercross, in his absolute prime at that time, was coming off the back of winning all but one race in the 96 AMA supercross season, and then suddenly found himself scrambling for a ride a month after this Paris race, ending up on Suzuki just a week before the start of the 1997 season.
It was season that would see him lose the championship to Jeff Emig – but he still took it the last round and finished second!
