Tomac talks the Matterley MXoN experience

Eli Tomac chatted on the PulpMX show with Steve Matthes and Adam Cianciarulo about his MXoN at Matterley Basin and the the legend said he still wanted more despite a really strong performance – saying he loved the track!

“It was a good performance but we weren’t celebrating by any means, that’s my take on it,” said Eli when asked to sum up the performance of the team. “All three of us did a good job and we all carried our weight but we just got beat. You look back and think, ‘if I could have stayed in front of Gajser and Jett in the last moto and one of the other guys had passed one more guy,’ and those things and it really drives you crazy!

“I thought we were super consistent and got a good result but by no means was I celebrating like I was just expecting top five and got second. I was just okay with it.”

On making the decision to go, Eli said: “I came home from Vegas, slept on it for a night, maybe two night and yeah, i was like ‘we have to go.’ And when you get older, you just realise how cool a race it is and what it means and racing all the best guys in the world, it’s impossible to pass up.”

Tomac said of doing the big quad: “It was 140ft, that’s a big jump. It was wide open, get your tyres on the ground on the little double before it, stay low, and dude, wide open! It was a small landing, you mad little bit of time, it was a fun jump.”

Tomac was asked if he would do a year of MXGP and said: “At this point I would say it’s too late, but I will say, that (Matterley) was one of the best moto tracks I have ever ridden for pure flow, technical, a good race track in my opinion. I haven’t seen all the other tracks but I know some of them aren’t so sweet but that one, I had a heck of a good time and it makes me wonder…but at this point, I am not going to do that, I wouldn’t go over for a full series.”

And all good things come to an end, with Eli admitting 2025 will be his last season racing, confirming: “this will be my last year.”
