According to Racer X, Eli Tomac is very much still in contention for Team USA at this years MXoN, with the AMA delaying their selection until Tomac is back racing – and he is expected back this weekend at Budds Creek!
Right now, the blazingly fast Chase Sexton is surely the number 1 pick, then in-form Plessinger/Cooper would be the main options with Deegan/Hymas/Kitchen (if PC support the event) the options for MX2 – but Deegan hasn’t fully committed yet as he hasn’t heard anything from the AMA, despite saying he wants to go.
Racer X said on Instagram: “Is Team USA’s 2024 MXoN Lineup Delayed for Eli Tomac’s Return to Pro Motocross⁉️ We are getting word that the Team USA’s lineup for the 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations will not be finalized or announced until after the final round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship to see how Eli Tomac performs 👀.”
It only adds to the intrigue of Tomac’s comeback and if Eli is in it might persuade Deegan to go with Star already committed. Eli Tomac’s performance at Budds Creek and Ironman could be pivotal for the star power of Team USA at the MXoN.
It has now been confirmed, Tomac is also for WSX so it could be a busy Autumn for Tomac if Budds Creek goes well.. and it all could be ideal prep to come out swinging at A1 in 2025 after the American had no racing leading up to 2024 AMA supercross due to his achilles.
