The SM Action Racing team have been in the paddock for a number of years running a lot of different manufacturers including Yamaha, GasGas, KTM and most recently Fantic.
The team have helped a number of riders reach their full potential and riders even turned into World Champions after the team brought them to a level where full factory teams signed them. Maxime Renaux and Andrea Adamo both ended up as MX2 World Champions after being developed by the team.
This year, the team ran Fantic machinery running two MX2 GP riders as well as an EMX250 rider. Kay Karssemakers and David Braceras contested the MX2 World Championship with the team this year with Alexis Fuéri racing the EMX250 series.
Unfortunately, it is more sad news for the MXGP paddock as we understand the SM Action team will also be closing their doors. We believe they wanted to remain in the paddock to contest the MX2 World Championship but without support from a manufacture, they haven’t got the budget required to run a team in 2025.
Fantic aren’t expected to have an MX2 World Championship team in 2025 but will have three MXGP riders. They will have an EMX programme which is likely to contest of two EMX125 riders and one EMX250 rider.
Karssemakers has secured another ride in the paddock with the returning Riley Racing team which will see him race Kawasaki machinery. Whilst Braceras’ plans aren’t yet official it’s also expected he’ll remain racing the MX2 World Championship. It has just been announced that Fuéri has signed with the Ghidinelli KTM Racing team to contest the EMX250 series.
During the EICMA show in Milan next month, Fantic are expected to announce their plans but look out for an SM Action Racing statement coming soon.
