With no free practice thanks to bad weather forecast the riders had to go straight into qualifying with just two warm-up laps – and the drizzle started when they hit the track!
Both fastest qualifiers Justin Cooper and Eli Tomac said it was hard to see with the rain but the track was in good condition and only two tenths separated the top three in the 450s, Tomac, Ferrandis and Musquin.
Ken Roczen was back in sixth with Cooper Webb ninth just behind Justin Barcia who was eighth despite a fall on the first lap and going into the mechanics area to get himself cleaned up. Returning Chase Sexton was 11th with Max Anstie in 20th.
