Romain Febvre may have delivered a flawless weekend in Uddevalla, sweeping all three motos to strengthen his championship lead, but for many, the real story of the Swedish Grand Prix was Isak Gifting.

The JK Yamaha rider is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, and with the support of a passionate home crowd behind him, he produced a performance that will be remembered long after the points table is forgotten.

Gifting might have only walked away with four championship points, but the number hardly tells the story. In the second MXGP moto, he lined up with fire in his eyes, got a fantastic start, and found himself battling at the sharp end of the field. Running third, he stunned the Uddevalla fans by pulling off a brave move on Jeffrey Herlings – a pass that alone would have been worth the price of admission. But he wasn’t done there. With the momentum on his side, he went after Febvre himself, throwing down another audacious move on the championship leader which left jaws on the floor.

Gifting had the Swedish fans on their feet for the entire race, daring to dream of something truly incredible. Sadly, with just a handful of corners to go, his fairy tale unraveled. A crash cost him dearly, and cruelly, his bike refused to restart meaning he couldn’t even finish the race. Heart breaking.

Yet the result didn’t matter. The spectacle he created – the drama, the courage, the sheer determination – was the stuff of motocross dreams. Whether you were trackside in Sweden or watching at home, it was impossible not to be swept up in the excitement. Imagine the emotions inside the JK Yamaha pit box or among those closest to Gifting – heart rates must have been off the charts.

It would be wrong not to also credit Paul Malin, whose commentary elevated an epic race. His words perfectly captured the electricity of the race, adding another layer to an already unforgettable moto.

So, thank you Sweden, thank you Isak Gifting, and thank you JK Yamaha for giving us the most gripping moments of the season. The result may not have been what Gifting deserved, but his time will come. And while his current team may not appreciate the sentiment, it feels fair to say: get this determined, fearless kid a factory bike – because he’s earned it.
