Liam Everts injured and will miss MXGP opener in Argentina

Belgian media are reporting that the talented, Liam Everts has crashed at Grevenbroich in Germany on Wednesday and as a report has picked up an injury.

Reports suggest that he has broken his thumb and already undergone surgery. It means that the Belgian who’d have been an MX2 title title threat is a serious doubt for the opener in Argentina.

The Belgian was also set to race in front of the UK crowd at Hawkstone International this weekend.

In the preparation races (win in Mantova and second place in Sommières), Everts immediately showed great things. But on Wednesday things went wrong during training in Grevenboirch, Germany.

Everts took a seemingly innocent fall, but afterwards complained of pain in his thumb. After examination in the Herentals hospital on Thursday morning, his thumb turned out to be broken.

In the afternoon Liam already went under the knife. The Lummen resident will be out of action for at least four weeks. He can certainly remember the opening match of the World Cup – on March 10 in Vila la Angostura, Argentina.

Everts is now aiming for the second Grand Prix, in Arroyomolinos, Spain, on March 24. Although that will also be a race against time.

UPDATE: Liam Everts has now confirmed the news posting the news on social media:

Injury update: Liam suffered a thumb injury in a small crash while training yesterday. At first, it seemed to be a sprain, but it’s worse than we expected. The doctor in the hospital of Herentals discovered a fracture and Liam had to undergo surgery this afternoon.

He will miss the first MXGP of the season (Argentina) because of this. After an almost perfect winter preparation, this comes as a serious disappointment. Time to heal up and come back
