Jett Lawrence didn’t hold back in a great podcast with Jase McAlpine of Gypsy Tales. The generally laid back and amiable Aussie who comes alive when it’s competition time gave an insight into his mindset and confidence level as he get ready to return for the outdoors at the end of May and finally race Haiden Deegan,
On Deegan and his antics, Jett said: “I don’t think it’s going to annoy me because I know what’s coming because I have been watching it for the last few years with him on the 250cc. I know the shenanigans he tries to play. You can do all that but I know on a dirt bike I am better, I can make shit happen especially when pressure is put on.”
When asked what makes him better than all the other top guys. Jett joked, “I guess I’m just not human,” before saying, “some things work different in my head, things compute different, I think that is what makes me special, how I see things. It just comes natural, it just comes with ease. When I go to think harder, it’s more things that no-one thinks of that make me better and different in a way of linking stuff together or trying this line. Sometimes I don’t get (it right), sometimes I miss on lines someone else is doing. I think the way I see the track is different.”
But he says Hunter can beat him! “He can beat me, on training days we are tied and there are some days he is better than me. People are seeing it now, he can be a bad mother*ucker and he always has been.”
Anyone worried about Jett’s motivation can rest easy because is super motivated to come back and be back on top after yet another injury. “This one has been a lot more annoying, I work my arse off, this one is bone, it has been a bit more difficult, it is one that doesn’t get a lot of blood flow, it’s a slow process. I’ve had good distractions that has taken my mind from just sitting there thinking this sucks. Yes, it sucks, but it is not going to be permanent. I just want to get back on the bike so I can get training for outdoors.”
