With Jett Lawrence having the technique of Stefan Everts and the mentality of Ricky Carmichael we asked the phenomenal talent if he wants to leave the sport with a legacy and all time numbers like Everts, McGrath and Carmichael.
Jett, on the eve of defending his 450 supercross title for the first time, said he was indeed chasing that legacy – to keep motivated:
“Those records for me, like you said I have won everything I can win championship wise. There are still some places I haven’t won yet so we can have that motivation, but for those records it just kind of helps me wake up. You got to have those little small goals for each year that I have but then also have those big one, that some people question but that’s what makes me, me.”
“You got to have that long distance because if I just go for each year and little goals, I run out of goals and then I am out of the sport early and you obviously don’t want that”.
“I want to be in the sport for as long as I can and be healthy until I do get bored. We set those stupid ones so we always have a bigger target and it’s just kind of how I work, it’s always been like that, it’s just me.”
You could be watching history in the making over the next few years.
