Since Foxhill, Jeffrey Herlings has been pretty much unbeatable and the now six time world champ seems to be turning back the clock to the 17/18 era. For any remaining doubters, Herlings put on a statement ride at the MXoN with a stunning final moto that saw him go down and past most of the top ten again before running down the great Jorge Prado to seal the win.
His performance was so impressive that even Mitch Payton doesn’t think anyone would have been able to beat him at Ernee! “I don’t know anybody that could beat him right now, heads up. He’s a stud.”
And truthfully I don’t think anyone was beating 32 year old Jeffrey Herlings at Ernee but maybe prime time Jett Lawrence would have made it a fight to the finish- unfortunately we will never know but Herlings performance at Ernee underlined why he is one of the best ever, and maybe the fastest ever!
But, speaking to Lewis Phillips Jeffrey said he would have liked to have raced Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan at Ernee! “The only one I’m missing here is Deegs, I’m a really big fan but I am also a big fan of Jett so I wish I could have raced both of them. Deegs is really good on a fast track but for the Americans, you could see today, even for a guy like Deegs I think this is a difficult track. Anyhow, big fan and I wish I could have raced him and I think I maybe, possibly had something for him”
“The main thing is I wish I could have raced Jett because I think the level I am at now I could maybe give him a challenge. I’m not saying all cocky I would smoke him but at least I probably could have given him some competition. Shame he wasn’t here but he had to get his foot fixed which is quite important because I had the same injury.”
Jeffrey Herlings, after all those injuries, has somehow kept going and has got himself right back into the fastest man on the planet discussion in his first year on a new bike at 32 years old having been professional from 15! What he is doing is simply not normal and the whole world saw why last weekend at Ernee the Bullet is a living legend.
And he keeps adding to legacy.
