Ferruccio Zanchi will be sidelined after suffering a heavy crash during the British Grand Prix at Foxhill. Fortunately, the Italian escaped with injuries far less severe than initially feared, although he will now be forced to take a short spell on the sidelines.
There was no shortage of crashes during the British Grand Prix, with Lucas Coenen, Pauls Jonass, Alberto Forato and Amber Simons all hitting the ground. Unfortunately, Ferruccio Zanchi also joined that list after a frightening crash in the closing stages of the first MX2 moto.
While battling Julius Mikula for sixth place – and on course for what would have been his best race result of the season – the factory Beddini Ducati rider was caught out by a violent kick from his Desmo250 MX in one of Foxhill’s most demanding sections. Unable to regain control at the top of one of the circuit’s steep downhill drops, Zanchi was launched from his bike and crashed heavily in one of the worst possible places.
The incident immediately sparked concern, with the Italian tumbling a considerable distance down the hill. For a brief moment he remained motionless at the side of the track, raising fears over the seriousness of his condition. Thankfully, much to everyone’s relief, Zanchi was eventually able to get back to his feet.
Despite the violence of the impact, the 19-year-old escaped with less serious injuries than first feared. Zanchi has been diagnosed with a small fracture of his sixth thoracic vertebra (T6), an injury that will not require surgery. He will now begin a period of rest and recovery.
Reflecting on the crash, Zanchi said:
“Unfortunately, while I was running inside the top ten and battling for sixth position, I crashed in one of the toughest sections at Foxhill. I suffered a small fracture to my T6 vertebra and will now have to take a short period of recovery. Thank you to the whole team, my family and everyone who is always by my side. We never give up! The pace and speed were good. I’ll see you all again soon, and thank you for all your messages.”
After joining Ducati for the 2026 season following two years with Honda HRC, Zanchi missed the opening rounds of the MX2 World Championship with a hand injury before returning for round four. Since then, the young Italian has consistently been knocking on the door of the top ten and looked set for his strongest race of the campaign in the opening moto at Foxhill before disaster struck.
Although battered, Zanchi has avoided the worst-case scenario. He is expected to take some time off to recover and is not expected to line up at Loket next weekend. After 12 rounds of the MX2 World Championship, he sits 15th in the standings.
