Herlings on Mewse, Coenen and MXGP title chances

After Conrad Mewse was the only rider to somewhat stay with Jeffrey Herlings in moto one of round five of the British Championship at Monster Mountain, Herlings again reiterated that Conrad could indeed be a top 10 GP rider if he could bring his British speed to MXGP.

Jeffrey, talking to Jeff Perrett after his win, stated: “There are great tracks in England that’s why I keep coming back. Good competition, Conrad at home, for sure a top ten MXGP rider. If he brings that speed to MXGP he would be between P5 and P10, so it’s a great training.”

Meanwhile on his own MXGP season that sees his title challenge thwarted by mechanical DNFs Herlings said: “Definitely eyes on the championship for MXGP but with things happening in the last couple of races the championship is far out of reach for now. But we keep doing our best and go for individual moto wins and GP wins and we will keep fighting for that championship even though it is looking very difficult right now.”

Herlings said of battling Lucas Coenen this season: “He’s just good, he’s one of the biggest talents on earth right now on a motorcycle, for me Jett remains number one but I think at Southwick he could possibly beat him. He’s just really good and a tough cookie to beat! Also his age, 12 years younger, you feel that. He has had less injuries, more intensity and more aggression but I don’t give up. At some point I wouldn’t mind if he goes to the US next year – that would definitely do me a favour!”
