Giacomo Gariboldi spots Joe Brookes’ potential and offers factory Honda exhausts

Giacomo Gariboldi might be the HRC Honda team owner, but he clearly has a watchful eye on the talent coming through the paddock. One rider who has caught his attention is British talent Joe Brookes, who has been making his mark in the EMX250 series

After Brookes switched to Honda mid-season, Gariboldi saw an opportunity to help the British rider and arranged for him to receive factory Honda exhausts. The support has not only been a welcome boost for Brookes, but also appears to have made a noticeable difference to his Honda.

“A mutual friend within the GP paddock who has got a lot of experience put the two of us in touch when I made the switch to Honda mid-season. It feels nice to be noticed by the factory team for sure. Both Giacomo and his team are always keeping an eye on what’s going on”, Brookes told GateDrop.com.

The factory exhausts have also brought a clear improvement in the bike’s performance, with Brookes immediately noticing a difference in the way the Honda delivered its power.

“I noticed quite a big improvement in throttle response and bottom end. More importantly they definitely make the whole setup look better”.

Brookes has also been putting the improved package to good use on track. After securing his first EMX250 podium, the Brit was keen to prove that the result was no fluke, and he did exactly that with another strong performance in Sweden to secure his second EMX250 podium.

“It felt amazing to back it up and for people to not just think it was a bit of luck the first time I got on the podium. I felt really good all weekend and my strength, fitness, speed and starts all seemed to come together at the same time”

With his results continuing to improve, Brookes was also in contention for a place on the British team for the 2026 Motocross des Nations. However, he ultimately missed out on selection, something he is determined to use as further motivation.

“To be honest I’m not disappointed, the team have made their selections and they have their reasons for doing this. I am just determined to keep working hard and performing to the highest level I can. I’m sure if I continue the way I’m going that good things will fall into place in the future”

Brookes’ recent progress has certainly not gone unnoticed. With support from Gariboldi behind him and his confidence growing, the British rider will be looking to end the season on a high as we approach the final EMX250 races of his career.
