EXCL: Håkon Fredriksen to sign with WZ KTM?

The WZ KTM continue to grow and make steady improvements every year. The German based team in the past had focused on the EMX championships but in recent years have turned their attentions to the MX2 World Championship.

In 2023, Oriol Oliver had some very strong results racing the competitive class and is expected to stay with the team for the 2024 season as well. However, the team are expected to sign up a new rider to contest the MX2 World Championship.

Mike Gwerder was under the WZ awning this year but injury issues cut his season short. Mikkel Haarup also joined the team for a brief spell after leaving DRT Kawasaki but he is on the move to Triumph for 2024.

The WZ KTM team are expected to sign up Håkon Fredriksen for the 2024 season. The Norwegian rider has had time with the BUD Kawasaki team in the past contesting the EMX250 series before making the move up to the MX2 World Championship with 114 Motorsports Honda. This year, Fredriksen had signed with Riley Yamaha but injury meant he missed the entire MX2 GP season and that team have now closed their doors.

Fredriksen did return towards the end of the year but wasn’t ready for GP racing – he did make it to the MXoN for Norway on a 450cc after Hakon Osterhagen’s injury. Injuries haven’t been kind to Fredriksen in recent years but he is talented and will look to rebuild his career in 2024.

If he can stay injury free there’s no reason why he can’t be competitive in the MX2 World Championship and will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

With Oliver and Fredriksen the WZ KTM team will have a strong rider line up for the 2024 season and will hope for consistent top ten results.

We will continue to keep you updated and bring you the news once it is confirmed.
