The news that Jeremy Martin would line up for the opening rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship with the Star Racing Yamaha team came as a surprise to many, but unfortunately, things haven’t gone to plan so far.

After a difficult start to the season, Martin suffered a crash at the second round at Hangtown and as a result, he will now sit out the third round of the series.

The former 250MX champion still plans to return to the gate later in the season, with round seven at Spring Creek in Millville set to mark his comeback—and more significantly, his final race as a professional rider.

Martin, who has battled with multiple injuries throughout his career, will officially hang up his boots after racing at his home track in front of family and friends, bringing an end to his great career in the sport.

Yamaha posted the following update:

Feeling less than 100% after his crash at the Hangtown Classic, Jeremy Martin shifts his focus to returning to full fitness for the Spring Creek National.

Jeremy Martin: “Unfortunately, after my crash in Moto 1 at Hangtown, I’ve decided to sit out Thunder Valley this coming Saturday so that I can get back to 100% for Millville, which is where I’ve now decided I’d like to finish out my career with the team. A massive thank you to everyone at Star Yamaha for their support and belief in me, and all of the people out there who have been supporting me. It’s been a privilege to ride under the truck, and as a lifelong fan of this sport, I’m excited to continue supporting the Star Yamaha team.”
