The first two rounds of the Ulster Championship saw top local talents Martin Barr and Jason Meara line up behind the gate – always a welcome sight for fans of motocross in Northern Ireland. Meara, in particular, was in dominant form, winning all six motos across the opening two rounds.
However, both riders have now confirmed they won’t be racing the third round of the series, which takes place at Seaforde Motocross Park on May Day. It’s disappointing news for fans hoping to see the top domestic talent in action once again.
While neither rider has gone into great detail, it’s understood their decision is partly due to not receiving the same level of support from the event promoters as they did at the earlier rounds. That’s a real shame, especially considering the boost their presence gives to the championship.
Let’s hope we see them back on the gate for future rounds – local motocross is always better with Barr and Meara in the mix.
The pair posted the following updates on social media:
Martin Barr:Â
Unfortunately no Ulster Championship for me this Monday at Seaforde which is a shame especially after the commitment and support received from the promoters of Round 1&2
Jason Meara:Â
For those who have been asking I will not be in attendance at the Ulster championship this Monday in Seaforde. It is definitely unfortunate after the level off support I had received at the first 2 rounds from the promoters.
