Chase Sexton has given an update on his ACL injury recovery with the Kawasaki rider still hoping to be back on the bike at some point in October, but he did also reveal he is working with a new trainer!
Sexton said in conversation with Adam Cianciarulo and Justin Brayton on Race Day Live: “Yeah, so I had a complete ACL tear, not what I was expecting, because to be honest, when I crashed, I mean, I knew my knee hurt, and I knew it was maybe not going to be great, but I was maybe hoping like a meniscus, maybe just a little bit of damage.
“And I got the call, I don’t know, maybe a week later, I got my MRI done, and my doctor called me and said, yeah, you have a complete ACL tear, and I’m like, that ain’t good! I mean, maybe a little bit of time off, but not six months, so yeah, it’s a long process, I’ve never had a ligament issue or damage, so it’s not like a bone where you kind of know where it’s at in the healing process, you can see on x-rays.
“A ligament, I mean, I have a whole new ACL, obviously, and it takes nine months for them to fully heal, so obviously I’m not waiting nine months to get back on the bike, but yeah, it’s been a long process. And it’s a bit, like I said, tricky for me, because I want to overdo it, but I’m also scared to re-injure it, so I’m kind of finding that fine line of too much and not enough, so yeah, it’s been a grind.
“I’ve been cycling a lot, back in the gym, yeah, I’ve been spending a lot of time in North Florida with having a new trainer, so changing some stuff up in the program, and it’s been really good so far, and I hope to be back on the bike next month, middle of October, hopefully, on the turn track, just trying to work on technique and whatnot, and not put my knee down for a little bit, but then ease back into Supercross and get ready for 2027.”
